curation and context: identity
The Curation and Context project was, for me, a great opportunity to see how my work relates to others, in a collective space. It was also very interesting to understand more about curation and installation, which is an area I'm currently interested in exploring even further. It was enriching to understand how my work is being perceived by other people and to create dialogue with artists who are producing works with a similar mindset.
I also tried a new display method for my work, which I probably wouldn't have considered if not in a context that I had the encouragement and freedom to experiment. I aimed to exhibit my work in the corner/back part of the room, because I felt that it could be linked with my research of intimacy.
The decision of displaying it on the floor was a special surprise, because I think it added a lot to the work itself. On the floor, the paper became something else, different than what it is on the plain white wall. The translucent aspect was still present, but the color of the pencil related to it differently, especially on the floor that had a similar tone as the lines of the drawing. The space between the fragments reminded me of cracks on the floor, as something broken or in the process of being repaired. Also, by displaying some papers on the wall and some on the floor, it gave me a feeling of movement, as it is falling down or as it is climbing up. In-between.
Besides that, I learned even more about how to look at the exhibition space through different angles and perspectives, and how this affects directly the perception of the works and its dialogues. To be placed in the Identity theme was very significative, as I feel so connected with my practice and my works. It was, overall, an amazing professional learning experience for me.
