in-between: a project for peckham levels
In March 2024, a funding open call for the UAL exhibition spaces at Peckham Levels and Millbank Tower opened, therefore I thought it would be a great professional experience to propose an exhibition project with my classmates. Since we had the possibility of exhibiting at Millbank Tower before, I thought it would be interesting to work with other spaces, so we applied for Peckham Levels.
The project, entitled In-Between, was based in an important part of my research, the reflection upon the idea of limits and its possibilities of expansion. Thinking that the world is composed by many threshold territories, I thought of bringing together the works of our class in a variety of perspectives, each one sharing their own perceptions of the idea of limits: between stillness and movement, public and private, art and life, past and present, human and nature, reality and fiction, etc.
Considering that the world is filled with binarities in terms of environment, gender, age, presence, territories, physical space, emotional state, etc., I thought that it'd be interesting to create a dialogue with the public about this subject. With the exhibition, the aim was to offer a space where these binarities are expanded: not ceasing to exist, but aknowledging its many layers and complexities. Instead of a division, we hoped to evoke the in-between space as a possibility of encounter.
Together with the exhibition, we also proposed a drawing workshop event. Unfortunately, we were not selected for the fund this time, but the Peckham Levels team provided a feedback session and shared that the space could be booked for us to realize our project anyway. We've recently booked the space to hold our exhibition in the third week of July this year.
