obratêxtil exhibition
In 2023 I was invited by brazilian artist and curator Suyan de Mattos to join a collective exhibition focused on textile practices in Brazil. The project ObraTêxtil (TextileWork) became reality this September, opening in the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum (MAC Niterói) with works of 40+ artists.
The ObraTêxtil exhibition, which will open on Saturday, September 28, at the Niterói Museum of Contemporary Art, will explore the intersections between contemporary art and the textile tradition. These relationships were woven together in a multidisciplinary effort, encompassing both the popular matrix and speculations about textiles in a broader field. The procedures and discourses present in the exhibition intertwine in a network, reflecting the present day.

The piece I’m exhibiting in the museum, until December 2024, is Afetos imaginários (ou o desejo de aproximação) (Imaginary affections (or the desire for closeness)). It’s a work I made in the middle of 2023, composed by two embroideries on cotton raw, that connect through a thread in the middle. It was one of my first attempts to explore the notion of the edge/corner in my practice, as well as the concept of the line/thread as a connector.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to visit the exhibition in person, but I feel extremely happy to be able to continue my professional practice in Brazil while still finishing my MA in the UK.
