V: the touch
In my work, I perceive affection as an intertwining of intimacies. The drawings/embroideries composed mainly of lines are an attempt to explore these different types of intimacies, individual and collective, based on a continuous line that forms each image and that sometimes connects the figures to each other, creating a web of relationships, experiences and livingness.
To explore the reflections that Diphylleia grayi evokes on me, I had the feeling to divide my research in “acts”, “chapters”, “units”. The touch is one of the most remarkable aspects of the flower - when the flower is touched by water, it “becomes transparent”. In Unit 1, I aimed to explore various forms of touch located in the everyday, in the intimacy; thinking about other forms of touch, apart from only physical touch.
I noted down other other aspects that the phenomenon of the flower can possibly induce - sometimes, contradictory ideas: fragility, movement, stillness, time, cycles, texture, body, ephemeral. I took the decision to start with the touch this time. Perhaps there’s a personal desire hidden in it.
