water, oil, honey exhibition
In May, right after the Unit 2 submission date, I had the chance to exhibit one of my Unit 1 works, Melting words, at the Water, Oil, Honey exhibition at The Crypt Gallery, curated by the Pistil Collective — formed by our classmate Vár Samuelsen and Sara Paowana.
The exhibition was created through an open call and it was a great opportunity to exhibit my work in a different context — outside of the university, and in a space different from the traditional white cube style.
I realized that the color of the linen canvas slightly matched with the color of the walls of this gallery, more than in the first time that it was exhibited in Camberwell (on a white wall), dialoguing more directly with the architecture of the space. Nevertheless, the white thread that composes the work stood out even more because of the same reason. This contrast was interesting to see and reflect on, as it highlighted an important part of the materiality of the work — hopefully evoking the feeling of something falling/melting/aiming for connection even more.
